Tips for Navigating the Javits Center

  • A New Venue: Legalweek’s new home is the Javits Convention Center located on Manhattan’s West Side.
  • Entrance: Legalweek takes place in the North Javits Convention Center. Use the dedicated entrance on 11th Ave – W. 38th St.
  • Exhibit Hall: You’ll find it on the third floor. Explore the exhibit hall here.
  • FedEx: Need last-minute handouts or presentation materials printed? The Javits FedEx Office is located in the South Building at 429 11th Avenue (between 35th & 36th Street).
  • Coffee & Food: The exhibit hall has you covered! It offers barista-style coffee carts and food and beverage stations.

Cabs and rideshare apps are convenient and plentiful in New York, but don’t underestimate the subway! Ready to swap traffic jams for subway stops? Here’s what you need to know:

1) Quick Access to the Javits Center

You’ll find the entrance for Legalweek at the North Javits Center on the 7 Line Hudson Yards stop at 34th St.

2) Pay at Your Convenience

Almost every subway station now supports OMNY Pay and Apple Pay, allowing you to tap in with your credit card or iPhone.

3) Use Google Maps

Google Maps is an invaluable tool for navigating the subway system. It provides detailed instructions on which train to take and where to go, making it easy to plan trips to various parts of the city.

4) Download the MTA App

The official MTA app offers up-to-date bus and train schedules, as well as help with directions. Combine it with Google Maps and you’ll be traveling like a local in no time.

Time Bound: Excursions for Every Schedule

After Legalweek, or if you have some time around the conference to spare, here are some of our tips for things to do around the city. 

Thirty Minutes

  • Venture Into Hudson Yards: In addition to a mall with many shops and restaurants, Hudson Yards also offers several ways to enjoy New York City. Walk the High Line, an elevated park built on a former rail line, or climb the Vessel, the honeycomb-like structure you can’t miss when you’re in the area.

One Hour

  • Stroll in Central Park: Take a rejuvenating walk in Central Park. The southern entrance is a 12-minute cab ride from the Javits Center, offering a quick and easy urban retreat. Don’t miss the Bethesda Terrace & Fountain in the heart of the park or the iconic Reservoir, the largest body of water in the park.

Two Hours

  • Explore Neue Galerie: This museum on the Upper East Side is about a 20-minute cab ride from the Javits Center. Its collection sits in a townhouse dedicated to early 20th-century German and Austrian art and design and features standout works by Klimt and Schiele, and exquisite decorative arts.

Three Hours

  • Visit the Morgan Library and Museum: This historic library and art museum began as financier J.P. Morgan’s personal library and now invites visitors to wander among rare manuscripts, exquisite bindings, and historic rooms.

During this phase, we work to step away from any assumptions and guesses about what our customers needs, and let our research findings inform our decision-making. We learn more about our customers, their problems, wants, and needs, and the environment or context in which they will use the solution we offer.

Define.

During the Define phase, we analyze our research findings from the Understand phase and determine what is the most important problem to solve — and why. This step defines the goal. Then we can give a clear problem statement, describing what our customers’ needs are that we are trying to solve, making sure that we heard and defined their problem correctly.

Solve.

This phase is an important part of the discipline in our process. People often settle for the first solution, but the most obvious solution is often not the right one. During the Solve phase, we brainstorm collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to generate many unique solutions. We then analyze our potential solutions and make choices about which are the best to pursue based on learnings in the Understand phase.

Build & Test.

This phase is critical in developing the right solution to our customers’ problem. An organized approach to testing can help avoid rework and create exceptional outcomes. Starting small and testing the solution, we iterate quickly, before deploying solutions across the entire project.

Act.

During this phase, the hard work of prior phases comes to life in our customers’ best solution. The research, collaboration, and testing performed prior to project kick-off ensure optimal results.

Feedback.

At the project completion, we convene all stakeholders to discuss what went well, what could have been better, and how we might improve going forward. We call these meetings “Retrospectives,” and we perform them internally as a project team, and with our external customers. The Retrospective is one of the most powerful, meaningful tools in our framework.
